Do you want to learn Latvian, change careers or gain digital skills – all for free? The National Employment Agency (NVA) offers a government-funded programme that offers real opportunities for growth. This article explains who can take part, how to apply and what courses are available.
Who is this programme for?
If you live in Latvia and want to improve your skills, this programme is for you. It is suitable for foreign nationals with residence permits, students, self-employed people, jobseekers and anyone considering a career change. The training is fully funded by the government and takes place in accredited educational institutions throughout Latvia.
What can you learn?
The “Training for Employed Persons” programme offered by the PES includes a wide range of courses: the Latvian language (from A1 to B2 level), IT skills such as programming, data processing and cyber security, as well as vocational training in areas such as accounting, logistics and service industries. After receiving your personal training voucher, you can choose a course and service provider, such as Language Mape.
How to apply?
Submit your application online on the official PES website. Once approved, you will receive a personal voucher for training. Then choose your course, sign the contract with the institution and start your studies within a few weeks. If you are applying for a Latvian language course, it is advisable to first pass a language level test to join the right group.
