On August 7, 2025, OpenAI introduced GPT-5 — the most intelligent, fastest, and feature-rich version of ChatGPT to date. This unified system can determine on its own when to respond instantly and when to “think” longer in order to deliver the most accurate and expert-level result.

What’s new

Accuracy and reliability
GPT-5 produces up to 80% fewer errors in complex tasks compared to previous models. It clearly states when a request cannot be fulfilled and offers safe, relevant alternatives.

Better instruction-following
Complex, multi-step tasks no longer need to be broken down into smaller parts. GPT-5 considers all requirements at once and delivers a complete solution.

Texts with depth
From business reports to poetry — GPT-5 writes in a structured, expressive way while maintaining the required style. It works equally well with practical documents and creative formats.

Code and design
The model can create web applications, games, and interfaces in a single request, offering harmonious design and clean architecture. It also handles debugging and optimizing large projects.

Medical topics
GPT-5 does not replace a doctor, but it helps interpret medical results, prepare for appointments, and tailors responses to the user’s knowledge level and local context.

Multimodal capabilities
The model can analyze images, diagrams, and videos of up to 256 frames, interpret charts, presentations, and technical drawings.

Availability

  • Plus, Pro, and Team: extended limits, GPT-5 Thinking mode, and for Pro and Team — GPT-5 Pro with maximum reasoning depth.
  • Free: standard GPT-5 with a message limit, then GPT-5 mini.
  • Enterprise and Edu: access will roll out within a week after launch.

Personalization

  • Four conversation styles: Cynic (ironic and straightforward), Robot (concise and formal), Listener (calm and supportive), Nerd (enthusiastic and curious).
  • Option to customize interface accent colors.

Model deprecations

With the launch of GPT-5, several older models are being retired: GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.5, GPT-4.1-mini, o4-mini, o4-mini-high, o3, and o3-pro.

When opening old conversations:

  • Chats with 4o, 4.1, 4.5, 4.1-mini, o4-mini, and o4-mini-high will open in GPT-5.
  • Chats with o3 will open in GPT-5 Thinking.
  • Chats with o3-pro will open in GPT-5 Pro (available only on Pro and Team).

Voice Mode will continue to run on GPT-4o for now.
